The Galician Healthcare Service (Servicio Gallego de Salud; SERGAS) has achieved an economically and environmentally sustainable energy system using forest biomass as an energy source to provide thermal energy to the main Galician Community hospitals. The Naval Hospital had three heating boilers and one for domestic hot water. Once the installation is completed, two BioFire biomass boilers and two natural gas boilers will be used for both heating and hot water. The former Hospital de Marina has 314 beds, 5 operating rooms and 2 hyperbaric chambers to treat poisoning, decompressions and burns. Since its arrangement, SERGAS has wanted to improve the energy efficiency of all its facilities. In this case, a renovation of the boilers room has been carried out, replacing the four diesel and gas boilers with two BioFirem\u00e1s biomass boilers and two supporting gas boilers. The vertical filling system used in this project allows chips or pellets to be transported through the sections by screw conveyor that is located inside the silo and offers the possibility of reaching up to 10 meters high. The biomass boiler has replaced three gas boilers. It consists of different buildings located in a natural enclave.
